Rubén Grilo (Lugo, 1981) uses different media, such as sculpture, sound or moving image, to explore questions related to subjectivity and its complex relationship with technology. His pieces often make reference to the thresholds of perception and attention, the scale of the human body, the mechanics of affect and narratives that culturally reinforce the myth of the subject, such as creativity, personality or style. Although Grilo's work deliberately avoids interpretation, many of his pieces are formulated with a strong internal logic, and many elements appear recurrently, forming lineages or families of works that evolve over the years, as is the case with his research on chocolate, his laser animations or the series of pieces made with denim.

“The press is a watchdog. Not a lapdog. A watchdog. Now, a watchdog can’t be right all the time. He doesn’t bark only when he sees or smells something that’s dangerous. A good watchdog barks at things that are suspicious.” -Dan Rather (American journalist and a former anchor for CBS Evening News)
